Photographer Behind the Lens ~ Alison {Lollypop Photography}
This week we are featuring the amazing Alison from Lollypop Photography as our Photographer Behind the Lens!
Share a little about you...
“Never work with children and animals”. That’s the old saying and I couldn’t disagree more! I am one of those crazy people who actually LOVE photographing children with animals. I love the way an animal can make a child feel at ease in front the of camera. It’s probably due to the fact that the child is so excited about the experience that they totally forget that I am even there. That’s when I capture those natural expressions and interactions.
I have been very fortunate to become friends with the lovely owners of a farm near me called Animals 2U. Their animals are extremely well trained and an animal handler is always present throughout the entire shoot. Working together we are able to create not only beautiful photos but also an amazing experience for the child.
I encourage families to bring along their own pets to photo shoots as after all, they are very much loved members of the family too. It’s so beautiful to see the love a child has for their pet and to capture that connection is pretty special.
Can you imagine the excitement of having a bubble bath with ducklings, meeting a real unicorn or feeding a baby lamb? This is why I love working with children and animals.
A little about Alison …
I’ve been photographing families for 8 years now and previously worked as a graphic designer which has been a great advantage in making the transition from one creative field to another. The principles of design including colour and composition, etc also apply to photography. In my bag you will find a Canon Mark III and way too many lenses my favourite being the f2.8 200L series. I prefer prime lenses and I do have a tilt shift which I should play around with a lot more as I love the effect it creates.
I’m based in Bendigo, Central Victoria however I love that my job allows me to travel all over Australia photographing children and families. What I love most is that my job is a happy job. I make people happy. It’s so nice to see the smile on mum’s face when she sees her photos for the first time or when I walk into a clients home and see a wall full of photos that I have taken. It’s also wonderful to watch my clients growing up and to see how much their little personalities develop. Childhood is such a special time and yes, it’s so cliche, but capturing this time is pretty special.
